EU Grand Challenges

The Advanced Research Center CBBC directly contributes to several main targets defined under the EU Grand Challenges.

  • In the context of the ‘food security and bioeconomy’ challenge, ARC CBBC addresses core challenges like renewable oil crops as a source of bio-based products and converting CO2 into chemicals.
  • Under the ‘secure, clean and efficient energy’ challenge, ARC CBBC is directly linked to the task on sustainable biofuels and alternative fuels for the European transport fuel mix and the task on green vehicles
  • ARC CBBC is at the heart of the challenge on ‘climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials’, which includes waste as a resource to recycle, reuse and process for raw material recovery. Also the aim of developing a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy with a sustainable supply of raw materials directly connects to the approaches taken in ARC CBBC.
