The novel x-ray spectroscopy based methods have large potential for in-situ studies of materials under working conditions, due to the large penetration power of photon-in photon-out experiments. The combination of standard techniques (cf EXAFS) and novel x-ray spectroscopic tools offer new possibilities for applied studies into the structure of active materials.

Over the last 30 years I have (co)developed a range of novel x-ray spectropic tools and applications, including selective x-ray absorption spectroscopy, high-resolution fluorescence yield detected x-ray absorption spectroscopy. In addition I have contributed to the coherent understanding and interpretation of x-ray spectroscopy.
