Within ARC CBBC, I wish to accomplish…

I applied to the ARC CBBC because it was an attractive consortium of industry and academia that was focused on a common goal of designing materials and processes for chemical conversion.  This aim is strongly aligned with my own research vision, so I believe that the ARC CBBC can act as an important network for researchers within the Netherlands with common research themes, but having different approaches and backgrounds.  I would like to use my position within the ARC CBBC to build my network, to learn how other researchers in the Netherlands are attacking similar scientific challenges, and to expand my partnerships with industry.

In my scientific career, I am most proud of…

Throughout my relatively short career, I am most proud of my ability to adapt to different scientific challenges and align my research with industrial/practical needs. I think it is important to keep an open mind and be willing to steer research towards applications that are promising for real-world implementation, and admit when ceratin approaches are less feasible.  For me this has meant shifting away from ‘safer’ fields to fields that I know less about and have new challenges to overcome.  However, using the same approach of materials science, systematic fabrication and characterization, and well-defined experimental conditions, allows my group to thrive in the different challenges that we attack.
