New researchers

Kalani and Margareth

A warm welcome to our new researchers! We would like to introduce them to you.

Margareth Baidun
(left photo, TUD) obtained her Bachelor's degree in Molecular Science and Technology, a joint degree between Leiden University and TU Delft. During her Bachelor's thesis, she conducted a mechanistic study on ester hydrogenation using a Mn-based homogeneous catalyst, aiming to elucidate how base promotors can circumvent catalyst deactivation. She then stayed at Leiden University, where she earned her Master's degree in Chemistry. Her interest in computational chemistry deepened during her Master's thesis, which focused on investigating the activation pathway of PhotoActivated ChemoTherapy (PACT) compounds. Following this, Margareth completed an internship at TU Delft, where she studied how substrate-specific interactions affect catalyst structure and behavior in the context of transition-metal-based homogeneous catalysts. In August 2024, she joined the Pidko group at TU Delft to work on multimetallic CO2 hydrogenation.

Kalani Ostermeijer (right photo, TUD) is a Dutchman born and raised abroad (born in Australia, and lived further in Indonesia, Portugal, and Azerbaijan) until arriving to the Netherlands for his studies. He obtained a Bachelor degree in chemical engineering from the University of Groningen, and then moved his focus towards TU Delft where he obtained his Master degree in chemical engineering. After nearly 3 years traveling post tertiary studies, Kalani decided to pursue a PhD in TU Delft, joining the Product and Process Engineering group where he will focus on atomic layer deposition use in catalysis. His lifestyle has made him a very open minded and laid back individual. Beyond the lab he prefers high intensity activities, you can find him soaking up different cultures through travel, scaling up rock faces, and surfing some waves.
