New PhD candidates

Alessio en Cecilia

A warm welcome to our new researchers! We would like to introduce them to you.

Alessio Baldelli (TU/e) comes from Italy and earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Bologna. During his undergraduate studies, he completed a thesis project focused on the study of catalysts for the valorization of pyro-oil through ketonization reaction. He then pursued a master's degree in Low Carbon Technologies and Sustainable Chemistry at the same university, where his thesis centered on the development of new magnetic catalysts for the reductive catalytic fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass. In July 2024, Alessio joined the Inorganic Material & Catalysis group at Eindhoven University of Technology to pursue a PhD. His current research focuses on developing sulfur-free catalysts for producing sustainable aviation fuels from waste triglyceride streams.

Cecilia Allueva y Álava (UU) was born in Spain. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Zaragoza University, where she completed her thesis at the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon, focusing on enzymatic bioconjugation of platinum-based nanostructured materials as agents for the control of tumor. She then pursued her Master's degree at Utrecht University, specializing in sulphur-tolerant molybdenum carbides for the hydrodeoxygenation of fatty acids. Additionally, Cecilia completed an internship at IQatalyst, where she worked on resin hydrogenation. Now, as a PhD student in the Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis group at Utrecht University, her research focuses on developing Pd based bimetallic catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to higher alcohols.
