New researchers

Aniket Ambekar and Devanshu Sajwan

A warm welcome to our new researchers! We would like to introduce them to you. Photos left to right:

Aniket Ambekar (Eindhoven University of Technology) obtained a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pune, followed by a Master's degree in Energy Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Trichy. He then pursued a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where his research focused on understanding the fundamentals of pore- and particle-scale multiphase flows in porous media and packed bed reactors. For his doctoral work, he was awarded the Shah-Schulman Award (2023) by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and secured third place in the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award at the 16th International Conference on Gas–Liquid and Gas–Liquid–Solid Reactor Engineering. Following his PhD, Aniket began a Maria Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at Eindhoven University of Technology within Prof. Hans Kuipers' research group, with the Technical University of Munich as the co-host institute. During this period, he worked on developing novel structured packings for gas-liquid packed bed reactors, primarily using Computational Fluid Dynamics. In December 2024, Aniket started working on the ARC CBBC bilateral project, focusing on modeling electrochemical reactors for sustainable alkane dehydrogenation.

Devanshu Sajwan (Utrecht University) was born and brought up in Uttarakhand, India. He completed his bachelor’s in May 2022 from Doon University, Dehradun, India with an honors in Chemistry. During his bachelor’s, he worked in the field of photocatalytic wastewater treatment using metal-organic framework-based composites. Further in May 2024, he completed his master’s in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, India. His master’s thesis was related to the development of effective and efficient heterogenous catalysts for overall photocatalytic nitrogen fixation. During his master’s, he did an internship at Indian Institute of Scientific Research and Education Mohali, India where he worked on the synthesis of various metal-organic frameworks and their characterizations. Apart from research, Devanshu have interest in playing sports like cricket and volleyball, listen to Indian music, and travel. Recently in December 2024, he joined the research group of Prof. Bert Weckhuysen at Utrecht University, and his Ph.D. project is related to selective aromatics synthesis using catalytic fast pyrolysis.
