About me
I grew up in Friesland before moving to Groningen to study. Here I received a BSc and MSc in chemical engineering, as well as a BSc in chemistry. In September 2023 I started my PhD in the group of Prof. Dr. B. L. Feringa, working on biologically-sourced adaptive coatings. Besides chemistry I like football, swimming and fitness.
About my research
Smart functional coatings provide additional functionality over traditional coatings by responses to external stimuli. In this project we will design, synthesize, and assemble novel chemical building blocks with inherent adaptable functionalities and assemble these to yield smart coatings with incorporated functionalities.
Academic career
PhD candidate
2023-: PhD candidate in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry at Groningen University, the Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. B. L. Feringa.
Master
2020-2023: Master in Chemical Engineering, focusing on polymeric products and heterogeneous catalysis. Master research in the group of Prof. Dr. B. L. Feringa, developing a flow-cell for photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide over a heterogeneous catalyst. An internship was conducted at Symeres B.V. working on optimization of photocycloaddition reactions in flow.
Bachelor
2017-2021: Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, focusing on polymers and smart materials. Bachelor research in the group of Prof. Dr. B. L. Feringa, working on Controlled odor and drug release of bio-based polymers.
