About me
I was born in Bergum (Friesland), but grew up in Ossenzijl (Overijssel, the Netherlands) which lays in a wetlands area the Weerribben-Wieden. I studied chemistry in Leeuwarden and Groningen (MBO, BSc, MSc). After my studies, I work for over 2 years at Symeres B.V. (Groningen, NL) as an research scientist. I then joined the ARC CBBC in October 2023 as a PhD-candidate in the group of Prof. Ben L. Feringa (university of Groningen). Next to chemistry I like to do swimming or different water activities like sailing.
About my research
Waterborne coatings are widely applied as binders for inks and coatings in the packaging industry. Another quickly growing application area for waterborne coatings is to provide barrier properties to paper- and board-based packaging materials. The project will be focusing on developing new building blocks and new principles will be explored for recycling, (bio)degradation and adaptive (adhesive) functions to meet sustainability demands of today.
