In previous research, polyelectrolyte complexation triggered by evaporation of a volatile base was shown to induce coating formation. The focus of this project is to develop polyelectrolyte complex coatings with added functionality.
The strategy we are following is first elucidating the fundamental processes underlying film formation from a coating formulation. In particular, the network formation, evaporation and phase separation specific to the coatings will be studied. By understanding these, we will more reliably make coatings with additional functionality, leading to multifunctional coatings
